Ecoia supported Olympic Torchbearer Simeon Wakely with business planning, strategic positioning, marketing, and creative direction for Disability Sports Channel—securing over 180 student placements and expanding disability representation in UK media.
The Problem
Representation of disabled individuals in mainstream media continues to fall short—both in coverage and in creative leadership. Meanwhile, students in the South West of England often face limited access to practical media experience and meaningful industry placements. Addressing both challenges required visionary leadership and cross-sector collaboration.
The Solution
Ecoia partnered with Olympic Torchbearer Simeon Wakely to bring his vision for Disability Sports Channel to life. Through a blend of strategic support and creative execution, we helped shape the foundation for a movement rooted in inclusion and visibility.
We provided:
This initiative not only enabled hundreds of students to gain hands-on industry experience—it also expanded the media platform for disabled athletes and creators across the UK.
Our Approach
Ecoia applies a holistic, three-pillar framework to every project:
Grounded in the principles of social equity, sustainability, and good governance, our process for Disability Sports Channel combined creative thinking with personalised guidance from influential capacity builders across the UK and US social sectors.
The Outcome
What started as a bold idea quickly turned into a scalable model for impact. Disability Sports Channel is now a growing platform empowering disabled voices, inspiring a new generation of media professionals, and changing how sport and ability are represented across the country.
